By CarrieW | January 6, 2012
With the end of 2011, chances are the thought of preparing your taxes has started to creep in. If each year, this is a dreaded task that has you procrastinating into April, get a jump on things now and turn your annual tax filing into a very small deal. The tax accountants at Harless & Associates, CPAs in Buckhead have provided an outline of what you can get started on in January to make the process go as smoothly as possible.
- The most important tax task to take care of right away is to make a list of all of the W-2s, 1099s, and any other income-related forms you expect to receive.
- Start getting together a list of all of your deductible expenses too.
- Don’t forget about items like 1099s for investment income, K-1s and all of your charitable donations.
- Most of your reporting forms should be mailed to you by January 31, so be on the lookout for them.
- There is still time to make last-minute contributions to lower your taxable income. You have until April 15 to make HSA (Health Savings Account), IRA (Individual Retirement Account), Roth IRA and SEP IRA (Simplified Employee Pension Plan) contributions.
January is the time to get moving on your tax preparation for last year, but it’s an even better time to start strategizing for this year. Contact your tax accountant now to begin developing your 2012 strategy. The more prepared you get now, the more April 15 will feel like just another beautiful spring day!

Monte Hewett Interviewed on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio!
By CarrieW | December 24, 2011
The folks at Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio recently interviewed Monte Hewett, President of Monte Hewett Homes. During the 13-minute interview, Monte explains why he founded Monte Hewett Homes in 2000 and his desire to build closer to the city than many other builders were doing at that time. By focusing on infill intown communities, the properties have managed to remain competitive in the current housing market.
Monte also discusses what today’s homebuyer is interested in, which has shifted from just a few years ago. While the biggest decision drivers are kitchens and family living spaces, master bedrooms have gotten smaller (allowing for more storage space), and two-story great rooms have been mostly eliminated. The general trend now is to be practical.
If you are wondering how the market is doing, Monte offers thoughts on that too, and some of it is very positive. To get the full version of Monte’s analysis and advice, you can also download Monte’s interview on iTunes!

HomeAid Atlanta for the Holidays
By CarrieW | December 7, 2011
If you are looking for a non-profit agency to donate some time to this holiday season, or maybe one to be the recipient of your end-of-the-year financial contribution, we’d like to tell you all about one that is close to the hearts of Monte Hewett Homes. Local organization HomeAid Atlanta addresses a critical need for transitional housing in the metro-area to serve the temporarily homeless.
Through donations of professional construction services, HomeAid Atlanta builds multi-unit transitional housing to serve the city’s temporarily homeless families and individuals. You can see why this fantastic organization is a great fit for the help of Monte Hewett Homes! HomeAid Atlanta is also the designated charity of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.
The mission of HomeAid Atlanta is to build and maintain dignified housing where temporarily homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives. Transitional housing provides the temporarily homeless with safe, dignified living environments that blend into neighborhoods and offer life and job skills training programs promoting self-sufficiency.
Unlike any time in America’s history, today’s homeless are primarily children, women, and families. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of today’s homeless are not the people seen on the street. They are the “invisible homeless” who are without a place to live due to unforeseen life circumstances (e.g. job loss, natural disaster, divorce, abuse, foreclosure or a medical condition)—situations that could affect anyone. In fact, it is estimated that more than 80 percent of today’s homeless population are women, children and families that experience a life-altering event driving them to homelessness.
The transitionally homeless families and individuals that HomeAid Atlanta serves include:
o Victims of domestic abuse
o Pregnant teens
o Abused and abandoned children
o At-risk and runaway teens
o Medically fragile infants
o Families experiencing temporary job loss
o Victims of natural disasters and other catastrophes
HomeAid Atlanta welcomes your help!
Builders
Trade Contractors and Building Materials Suppliers
Businesses and Individuals …
are all welcome to get involved through donating materials, coming for a one-day project or helping out with a special event.
We hope you will consider being a part of the great work HomeAid Atlanta is doing for our communities. Happy Holidays from Monte Hewett!
